Fortitude Volleyball Club was established in 2012 by Sarah Widhalm. When Sarah moved out of state in 2013, Sarah asked Nicole to continue the dream of creating a family-like club atmosphere, where players are taught not only skills on the court, but also skills that transfer off the court. Skills like time management, team work, leadership, community service, and discipline. Fortitude believes in training the all around student athlete and strives to prepare players physically, mentally, and emotionally to perform at their peak.
HEAR THE VOLLEYCALL... LIVE TO SERVE
Athletics and specifically organized team sports provide a unique opportunity to develop character, honor, and integrity. Fortitude strives to go beyond just volleyball.
Fortitude VBC is committed to developing the all around student athlete. We seek players who are passionate about their craft AND dedicated to personal excellence. In the spirit of Fortitude's mission, the club will participate in a community service activity during the club season. We look forward to working with the players both on and off the court.
In 2017, we served together as a club at Feed My Starving Children and also served as individual teams. Our teams volunteered at places like Sole Hope and St Mary's food bank. They also supported "Digging for Duch" and wore pink and purple to raise awareness for Breast Cancer and Alzheimer's. We could not be more proud of this Fortitude family!
In 2016, we divided and conquered. Some teams served at Service Time AZ charity group that donates thousands of baby quilts and stuffed felt “monsters” to valley children in hospitals, foster care systems, refugee shelters and any area she can find that can be comforted by the work of her volunteers. Another team served at CCV's Shine Event - a prom for those with special needs. As a volleyball community, we all supported Team Reed and bring awareness for Vanishing White Matter Disease and got personal with participating in Dig Pink days for Breast Cancer Awareness, as one of our own was fighting breast cancer, Virginia Bellis.
In 2015, Fortitude participated in Rock 'n' Box with St. Mary's Food Bank, packing 1,600 boxes and providing 19,200 meals for those in need. The girls had a great time while taking the time to appreciate all of their own opportunities.
In 2014, Fortitude's participated in the First Annual Boogie In Blue at GCU. Thank you to all of our Fortitude family for volunteering and contributing such great baskets to the silent auction and helping set up and run the event!
In 2013, parents and players volunteered their time at Feed My Starving Children in Tempe.
We believe that service not only provides an important contribution to the community, but also teaches players the importance of character and being a well-rounded athlete.
