HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A PART OF THE FORTITUDE FAMILY?

This will be my first year with Fortitude. I am so excited to be a part of the Fortitude family.

WHAT IS YOUR PLAYING EXPERIENCE?

I was a 3 sport athlete growing up - playing volleyball, basketball and track. I lettered in both track and volleyball. I went on to play Division I volleyball at Alcorn State University where I suffered an injury to both knees and was unable to continue competing.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM? WHAT STATES HAVE YOU LIVED IN?

I’m from Glendale, AZ born and raised. I had the opportunity to live in Mississippi when I was in college, and I lived in California for a few years. I returned back to Phoenix in 2014.

ARE YOU MARRIED? DO YOU HAVE ANY KIDS?

I am not married. I have a beautiful little 2 year old daughter named Aquilla (pronounced Uh-Qwill-uh ;-) ) I named her after my paternal grandmother.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD?

Oh my oh my favorite food, this is tough. Well I happen to love soul food, both of my parents are from the South so I was raised on Southern style cooking. I am a huge fan of latin food, and I can’t get enough pasta!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COFFEE DRINK?

I love the caramel frap from Starbucks but anything that tastes good. I like to have coffee with my sugar and cream.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SPORT TO WATCH? (OTHER THAN VOLLEYBALL)

I am a HUGE Lebron James fan, he is an NBA player so definitely basketball. I enjoy most sports (live) but basketball, volleyball and football are the only sports I can enjoy watching on TV. Baseball, hockey and tennis I prefer to see those live if I’m going to watch.

WHAT DO YOU DO BESIDES VOLLEYBALL?

I work for American Express full time. Outside of work and being a parent, I have a huge passion for music. I am a singer/songwriter, which had a lot to do with my move to California. I wrote my first album that I released (only physical copies of) in 2011. My sophomore album will most likely be released some time next year. I am currently working on writing my first book, a fictional romance novel. I LOVE to read, it is a huge passion of mine. I am typically reading about 5-6 books at any given time. Traveling is super fun, I am always up for an adventure or a road trip. Oh the places I’ll pick up and go in my truck. I fell in love with Bikram Yoga, but haven’t been able to practice recently due to my schedule being so hectic. I thought I would hate doing yoga in a 104 degree temp room but it actually makes it easier, your muscles warm up fast!

WHY DO YOU LOVE VOLLEYBALL?

Volleyball has always been incredibly fun! I loved that it didn’t come natural to me. Basketball was my first sport. Once I got the hang of volleyball I quickly fell in love with it. I remember being shocked we had to wear spandex to compete, especially coming from loose fitting uniforms as a basketball athlete. The sport challenges me. It has made me a better person. It has taught me how to deal with adversity. I learned what it means to be a good teammate, how to be a leader, how to be coachable. I had to compete. I absolutely LOVE the element of competition and that you truly have to win as a team. I learned several life lessons I have been able to carry into my adult life.
