Get To Know Coach Micah:

WHAT IS YOUR CoachING EXPERIENCE?

The 2017 season marks the beginning of the Micah Briscoe head coaching era for Arizona Christian University Women’s Volleyball. During the 2016 season Coach Briscoe helped as a volunteer assistant with the ACU program.  The last three to four years, Briscoe has served as the Director of the Arizona Region Junior Beach Program as well as the boys head coach at Barry Goldwater High School and Deer Valley Middle School.

The 2016-17 seasons have been the culmination of Briscoe’s hard work.  The Deer Valley Unified School District just announced Briscoe as the Coach of the Year after he led DVMS to the Division I Championships for the first time ever and they advanced all the way to the championship match.  At BGHS, the team currently has the best record in the ten year recorded history of the program.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A PART OF THE FORTITUDE FAMILY?

This is be my first year joining Fortitude VBC.

WHAT IS YOUR PLAYING EXPERIENCE?

Prior to coaching, he played one season of men’s volleyball at both Grand Canyon University and Columbia Bible College (Canada).  He also spent one season on the tennis team of Paradise Valley College.  At all three stops, Briscoe earned academic and athletic scholarships including twice earning a Presidential scholarship.

The three time Arizona Region Beach Volleyball Champion was once crowned the US Beach Tour Champion at the U22 level.

Academically, Coach Briscoe graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Christian Studies from Grand Canyon University in December 2011.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM? WHAT STATES HAVE YOU LIVED IN?

I was born in Edmond, Oklahoma but moved to Arizona when I was 7 years old. I spent one year living in Canada while playing volleyball in college.

ARE YOU MARRIED? DO YOU HAVE ANY KIDS?

Coach Briscoe and his wife, Daniela, have a daughter Grace and son John with a third on the way.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD?

I have the palate of a 4 year old but my wife is "helping" me to branch out. I do love country fried steak with potatoes, corn on the cob, and a big biscuit (who doesn't love that?).

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COFFEE DRINK?

I don't drink coffee (refer back to "Favorite Food" question). I do like Jamba Juice though.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SPORT TO WATCH? (OTHER THAN VOLLEYBALL)

I don't really watch any sports (or TV for that matter) but I have enjoyed rooting for the AZ Cardinals recently. Ping pong and badminton are super intense though at the highest levels (pretty much any fast paced sports).

WHAT DO YOU DO BESIDES VOLLEYBALL?

I love to play with my family. We go on walks or just sit outside when the weather permits it. We love our church and being a part of any events they have that we can go to when our busy schedule allows it.

WHY DO YOU LOVE VOLLEYBALL?

I love that volleyball because is a true team sport. Everyone has to be contributing on the court in practices and in matches for success to take place. Its a fast paced game that requires strategy and focused intensity. Its very similar to life in the ups and the downs that can quickly take place.
